The Baywatch actor popped the question to girlfriend Hayley Roberts after nearly five years of dating.
“I had a saying, ‘You don’t get married because you want to live with someone, you get married because you can’t live without them’,” he told the UK’s Hello! magazine.
“I felt that way. I knew that I was really unhappy without her.”

This will be the third time down the aisle for the 63-year-old star.
Meanwhile, a devoted David has dropped down a knee multiple times proposing to Hayley, the first time being in 2012 on the top of the Harbour Bridge.
But it’s taken several attempts to finally seal the deal.
Speaking of the romantic beach-side proposal in Malibu, Hayley, 36, couldn’t keep the tears away.
“We were both in tears… I genuinely had no idea he was going to do that. I’m still overwhelmed,” she laughed.
While the Hoff was concerned about their 27-year age gap, Hayley admitted it didn’t phase her.
“I don’t worry about it. I don’t want to miss out on being with someone I love because of what might happen down the line.”
The American icon, who met the Welsh beauty during his time on Britain’s got Talent, is already dad to his two daughters, Hayley, 23, and Taylor, 25, from his 1984 marriage to Pamela Beach.
Both girls couldn’t be happier for their dad.
“I told my girls what I was going to do and they were both really supportive,” he said.
“It’s tough. No one wants to see their parents split up. But they love Hayley and they’re just happy for me.”
