Lying wearily and bandaged in a bed, the iconic artist sings, “Look up here, I’m in heaven.”
The song, Lazarus was released on his 69th birthday, just two days before his death.
David passed away yesterday following a secret battle with cancer – unconfirmed reports suggest it was lung cancer – and he knew he was dying.
Fans are poring over the poignant lyrics (written in full below), which now have a whole new meaning.
Tony Visconti, who worked with David to produce his final work, confirms that Lazarus, and his new album Blackstar, was the singer’s way of saying good bye.
“His death was no different from his life. A work of art,” Tony explained. “He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift.”
Tony reveals that David has known he would die from the disease for quite some time, and had kept it a secret from the world.
“I knew for a year this is the way it would be. I wasn’t, however, prepared for it,” he said. “He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry.”
The film clip ends with David retreating into a dark closet.

*Look up here, I’m in Heaven!
I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen,
Everybody knows me now
Look up here, man, I’m in danger!
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m so high, it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cellphone down below
Ain’t that just like me?!
By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
Then I used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
This way or no way
You know I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain’t that just like me?
Oh, I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh, I’ll be free
Ain’t that just like me?*
