Radio and TV personality Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has shared the sad news that his mother, Carmel has passed away aged 83.
Dave took to Instagram to share the news of her heartbreaking passing, but assured friends that she was surrounded by love.
“My angel mum Carmel passed last night, at home, surrounded by the love of her family,” he wrote.
“She has earnt the rest.”
Various friends flooded the comment section with love.
“So sorry to hear this mate. How special for her to be surrounded by her family at that time. Sending big love,” Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac wrote.
Julia Morris commented: “So sorry for your loss lovely jx”.
Radio co-host Erin Molan wrote: “Thinking of you all. Sending so much love. She was so immensely proud of not just your professional accomplishments… and there’ve been plenty… but the class of human being you are. The things you do for others every day. Your heart. You beautiful wife and kids. I love that line… you’ve earn’t the rest… yes she has xxx”.
Prior to her passing, Dave confessed on his 2Day Hughesy, Ed & Erin radio segment that his mum had been “unwell.”
“It’s been a tough couple of weeks,” he said.
“My mum is unwell and the family has gathered around her and we’re celebrating her life… she’s still with us but it won’t be long.”
“She’s asleep now and probably won’t wake up again.”
Despite all the hardship, Dave revealed his mother kept her humour during the hospital stay.
“One of the nurses lifted her and said ‘Sorry if I drop you’ and mum said ”doesn’t matter now’,” he said.
