Dannii Minogue has opened up about how thankful she is to be alive following her sister Kylie’s heartbreaking battle with cancer.
Speaking on The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show podcast, Dannii said that Kylie’s breast cancer diagnosis was a turning point in her own life.
“My big like moment where it really made me think about it and I’ve thought about it every day since was my sister was sick with cancer,” she said.
“We didn’t know if she would get through it. It was a terrifying time.”
Dannii revealed her friend in London had cancer, followed by another friend who died from the disease at a very young age.
“It was horrible and from that moment onwards it really did upset me when I would hear someone say something negative about getting older, like you have another day on this planet,” she said.
“Yes, you might have another wrinkle, but whatever you’ve got to enjoy every second of this precious life that you’ve been given.”
Kylie, 53, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 when she was just 36. In 2019, she opened up about coming to terms with the fact her battle with breast cancer ruined her chances of becoming a mother.
The pop star said that while she has some regrets and sometimes wonders what life could have been like with kids, she has accepted her situation.
Speaking about the diagnosis, Kylie told the Sunday Times Style magazine: “Realistically, you’re getting to the late side of things [at 36]. While that wasn’t on my agenda at the time, it changed everything.
“I don’t want to dwell on it, obviously, but I wonder what that would have been like.
“I can’t say there are no regrets, but it would be very hard for me to move on if I classed that as a regret so I just have to be as philosophical about it as I can.”
Kylie further revealed that she is now “more at ease” with her life and has reached a point where she accepts her situation and “gets on with it”.
Just last week, Aussie fans of the Spinning Around songstress went into overdrive following reports she was moving home to Australia after living in the UK for 30 years.
The homegrown icon confirmed to BBC Radio 2 that the rumours circulating are true, and she has plans to relocate permanently.
“It is true. I will be basing myself in Australia,” she said.
The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head songstress also spoke about the massive reaction she received from both sides of the pond.
She told the radio host, “I can’t believe the reaction it’s had. I’ve had friends call me.”
A source initially speculated the exciting news through the UK tabloid The Mirror.
“This year, when she was in Australia for an extended period due to travel restrictions, it gave her time to think about where she wants to be based,” said the source.
