The day Australian Idol winner Damien Leith held his newborn son Jagger Ramone for the first time, the singer was filled with a joy no musical achievement could ever give.
“It was absolutely incredible. He’s a gorgeous little guy,” Damien, 31, says of his new son.
Bringing home a brother for 20-month old son Jarvis inspired the singer to pen an emotional tribute that will be featured on his forthcoming album.
“It’s about our whole situation, of feeling really good. Jarvis, Jagger and Eileen were asleep and I snuck off and wrote it,” he says.
The as-yet-untitled song is just as close to him as Song For Jarvis, the heartfelt ballad about his first son that will appear on the B-side of his album’s first single 22 Steps.
Damien tells how Jagger was something of a surprise.
“We hadn’t been trying to fall pregnant for long. It was intentional, but it happened pretty fast. It must have been a very romantic night!”
