The Cranberries singer has died at age 46, her publicist confirmed in a statement to the BBC on Monday, Jan. 15.
“The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time. Family members are devastated to hear the news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” the message read.
The official Instagram account for The Cranberries also confirmed the tragic news.
“Irish and international singer Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London today. She was 46 years old.”
Following the announcement, fans were quick to pay tribute to Dolors on social media.
“RIP sweet Dolores… thank you for your lovely voice and awesome dancing moves,” one person wrote on Instagram with another adding, “You’ll forever live for us through your music. Your voice will now be singing from the heavens along with the angels.”
Celebrities also took to social media to express their sadness over Dolores’ sudden passing.
“I once met Delores O’Riordan when I was 15. She was kind and lovely, I got her autograph on my train ticket and it made my day. She had the most amazing voice and presence. So sorry to hear that she’s passed away today,” The Late Late Show host James Corden wrote on Twitter.
Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath similarly wrote, “Man… I did a show with Dolores O’Riordan a month ago in NYC and she tore the house down and could not have been lovelier. I can’t believe she’s gone, thoughts and prayers to her family and friends… RIP.”
Dolores is survived by her three children — son Taylor Baxter Burton, 20, and daughters Molly Leigh Burton, 16, and Dakota Rain Burton, 12 — with her ex-husband, Don Burton.
The Irish singer and the former Duran Duran tour manager were married for 20 years before announcing their split in 2014.
In a previous interview, Dolores gushed about being a mom-of-three. “The best time in my life was the years spent at home with my family. I love being a mum. My kids don’t see me as a famous person, or have any kind of expectation; I’m just their mum.”
