It seems the skyrocketing rents San Francisco are forcing some residents to go to extreme lengths to hold onto prime real estate.
One woman with a 385-square-foot rent controlled apartment in Nob Hill was so wedded to the idea of keeping her home she’s offered her hand in marriage to a prospective tenant.
The woman, believed to be an anonymous business student living in the Bay area, is off to grad school for two years and has advertised her $1400 a month apartment on Craigslist under the proviso that you would agree to marry her so she could legally sub-lease the space without losing her original rental deal with the home’s actual owner.
While the ad can’t be fully verified as it is now removed it did seem legitimate with the woman going to great lengths to describe her apartment and even drafting some wedding vows to make the whole process run smoothly.
This isn’t the first time a strange advert has appeared on Craigslist – remember the guy who did a photo essay on why he should move into your house (but not in a weird way) and the free butt pumpkin?
All we can say is hoax or not, the potential wife mentioned earlier in this story sounds like a smart cookie to us – she should save her pennies because doesn’t need business school.
