We can’t stop watching the moment Australian socceroos, The Matildas scored a win against Brazil in the FIFA World Cup.
It was second-half substitute Kyah Simon who scored an 80th-minute goal against the powerhouse team during a game in Canada.
It was neck-to-neck throughout the game until Simon sidefooted a volley, played by Brazillian Keeper Luciana, into the net.
It’s a history making 1-0 win that will see Australia move into the quarterfinals of the world cup.
Coach Coach Alen Stajcic could barely contain his excitement.
“We’re probably one of the most dangerous teams at the World Cup, if not the most dangerous team going forward,” he said in an interview on NineMSN.
“With such a young team, we’ve seen so much growth and development in such a short space of time.
“If they keep growing, we can beat anyone in the world.
“A lot of sacrifice in the last five months and I guess it pays off on days like this.”
Back home the reaction to the 1-0 win has been contagious.
Deadspin writer Greg Howard couldn’t contain his amazement.
“Holy shit. Holy shit! Brazil are out of the World Cup! Australia are through to the quarterfinals! It wasn’t supposed to go down like this. Brazil finished first in their group, while Australia finished second in the Group of Death,” Howard wrote.
“There have been a lot of upsets this World Cup, but this is the biggest one of the knockout stages, and it’s also the biggest win in Australia’s history. Brazil looked all tournament long to be one of the best sides, but of course, that doesn’t matter now.”
Australian surfing champ Sally Fitzgibbons joined a list of celebrities including Liz Ellis and Dave Hughes to congratulate the team on Twitter.
“Gooo @TheMatildas Our Aussie Women claim a huge Win vs. #Brazil to move to QuarterFinal stage @FIFAWWC Maginificent performance #Aussiepride,” Fitzgibbons wrote.
