Adam Sandler has been blasted for repeatedly touching Claire Foy despite being brushed away.
While appearing on the Graham Norton Show, the 51-year-old placed his hand on Foy’s knee while telling an anecdote.
The Crown actress quickly put his hand back where it belonged, onto his own knee, but Sandler again touched her and viewers were quick to comment on how uncomfortable Foy looked.
Emma Thompson, another guest on the program, appeared to glare at Sandler despite viewers feeling she was similarly touchy with him throughout the show.
Reps for Foy have said the 33-year-old actress wasn’t offended by the touching.
“We don’t believe anything was meant by Adam’s gesture and no offence was caused to Claire,” they said on her behalf.
Sandler’s reps dismissed the comments as “ridiculous” and said Sandler had acted similarly with Dustin Hoffman during a recent interview on Jimmy Fallon’s show.
“This is completely ridiculous. It was a friendly gesture,” they said
The incident comes at the tail end of a media frenzy surrounding accusations against Harvey Weinstein – a topic Thompson gladly shared her views on.
The 58-year-old said Weinstein was “at the top of the ladder of is a system of harassment, and belittling, and bullying, and interference” after dozens of women accused the film producer of sexual abuse.
“I didn’t know about these things, but they don’t surprise me at all, and they’re endemic to the system anyway,” she told the BBC. She added the disgraced juggernaut was “the top of a very particular iceberg” and was just one of many “predators” in Hollywood.
“Do they have to all be as bad as him to make it count? Does it only count if you really have done it to loads and loads and loads of women? Or does it count if you do it to one woman once? I think the latter,” she said.
