Supermodel Chrissy Teigen is as sick of social media trolls as the rest of us.
Earlier this year the thirty-year-old called out Twitter for not taking a tough enough stance against bullies. While that particular platform is yet to ban the trolls, Instagram listened and implemented changes to make their app a safer space for their users.
Soon all individuals will be able to ban particular words from their comment streams based on what they personally find offensive.
Currently the feature is being rolled out mainly to celebrity accounts. Teigen, husband to singer John Legend, is clearly pretty chuffed about it.
In a clear dig at Twitter’s more lax stance she tweeted out, “thank you, Instagram,” alongside a picture of the words she was trying to block from her account.
The new feature will make it challenging for trolls to harass other users. It was introduced after increased backlash towards the relaxed terms of use across popular social media websites and a resistance from business heads to ban repeat offenders.
In a statement to the Washington Post, Nicky Jackson Colaco, head of Instagram’s public policy, said: “Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self expression. We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience.”
About time, we say.
Are you looking forward to the new feature? Or do you think trolls just come with the territory?
