The show must go on…
Céline Dion is reportedly going to get back on the stage just weeks after she lays her husband Rene Angelil to rest.
The music legend’s husband, who lost his lengthy battle with throat cancer on January 14, is due to be buried at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal – where the couple wed 21 years earlier – and Dion is then scheduled to take the stage at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Feb. 23.
According to PEOPLE, sources say, “That’s what René would want.”
“He wants her to perform and come back,” said the source. “He knew her better than anybody and he probably knows that’s what she needs too, to perform.”
Dion, 47, was a devoted wife and when Angelil passed away at the age of 73 the Canadian singer was at home with him and their three children at his bedside.
“She didn’t travel anywhere,” adds the source. “She wanted to be with him 24/7 in case anything happened.”
When Rene’s health was ailing last year Céline told RedBook that her husband, who was also her manager and hitmaker who helped her sell an astounding 220 million albums, would still encourage her to do the work they both cared about so much.
“Don’t forget, he’s been the leader of the band all my life,” Céline told Redbook. “So it (hacks) him off to not see me all day and over here working. But he wants me to do this, do the show, do the interviews. But he freaks when I’m not home with him, too.”
In the months leading up to his passing, René, who had reportedly been on a feeding tube for the last few years of his life, did everything he could to ease Céline Dion’s pain, including planning his own funeral.
“René was generous enough to prepare all of this since the last few months with Céline,” Dion’s stylist and friend, Annie Horth told People. “He didn’t know when it would happen, but he really wanted everything to be already prepared.”
Now, Céline, whose brother also died of cancer this week, is “going through [this] peacefully and with control,” Horth explained.
