Come September 12, Australians will have the chance to vote on same-sex marriage. The postal vote is non-compulsory but some of Australia’s biggest celebs are urging their fellow Aussies to vote!
Chris Hemsworth has taken to Instagram to share his thoughts on the upcoming postal plebiscite on same-sex marriage.
“Dear open minded, free speaking, laid back, life loving aussies. Marriage is about love and commitment and, in a country based on equal citizenship, it should be available to everyone! Vote now for marriage equality,” Chris wrote.
Along with his plea, Chris posted a reminder from the Australian Electoral Commission to check your details on the electoral roll.
But, you only have till midnight August 24 to update these, so you better get moving!
Chris isn’t the only celeb encouraging Aussies to vote…
Margot Robbie
Margot reminds Aussies living overseas to make sure that their voice is still heard. “Love is Love,” she captioned the snap.
Hugh Sheridan
The Packed to the Rafters actor took to Instagram to express his disbelief that Australia hasn’t recognised same-sex marriage. “We are all humans, all unique, all different. Everyone deserves the right to love whoever they fall for, because love is a gift and should be celebrated, cherished,” he said.
Tim Minchin
Comedian Tim Minchin took aim at Australia’s same-sex marriage laws by rewriting the lines to a classic Aussie tune, I Still Call Australia Home.
Only, Tim changes the words to ‘homophobic’. He implores Aussies to vote ‘Yes’ in the postal plebiscite.

Kylie Minogue
Kylie has previously shown her support for marriage equality in Australia, particularly through the ‘Say I Do Down Under’ campaign founded by her ex-fiance Joshua Sasse.
Kylie has also said how “backward” Australia is about marriage equality and that, “the Earth didn’t cave in” in countries where it is legal.
Jesinta Franklin
Jesinta has openly spoken about her feelings towards same sex marriage. “It makes me feel so ashamed of my country,” she told Marie Claire magazine in April. “People are constantly saying, ‘I can’t believe you don’t allow gay marriage’ and all I can do is agree.”
In fact, she even wears an ‘acceptance ring’ between her wedding rings. The ring is part of a campaign by Airbnb to promote marriage equality in Australia.
David Campbell
The loveable co-host of Today Extra and his wife Lisa showed their support for marriage equality in a Instagram pic. “We both stand for #marriageequality,” he captioned the snap.
