Cate Blanchett praises AACTAs for uplifting women’s achievements

The actress was honoured with the Longford Lyell Award.

Cate Blanchett has praised the Australian film industry for refusing to allow the achievements of women to be ‘swept under the carpet’.

Cate made her remarks while accepting the Longford Lyell Award at the fifth annual AACTAs last night.

“So often in any industry, the film industry is no exception, female achievement, because we just get on and do stuff, we get swept under the carpet,” Cate said.

“I think it’s fantastic that AACTA are coming into the 21st century and so it’s a particular pleasure for me to receive this.”

The Sydney Morning Herald says Cate noted that she was ‘bloody proud’ of the Australian film industry, adding that the box office “is not the only measure of success.”

Martin Scorsese, Bruce Beresford and Ridley Scott recorded congratulations to Cate, which were shown to the audience.
