After making headlines last week with her “bisexual bombshell”, Cate Blanchett has now denied having had any “lesbian” relationships in the past.
The Australian actress had been quoted in her interview with Variety saying that she had had “many” relationships with women in the past.
In her interview with Variety, Blanchett was supposedly asked by the interviewer if this was her first time “as a lesbian”, to which Cate replied “On film – or in real life?”
And when further pressed on whether she’d had relationships in the past, the actress reportedly confirmed it by saying, “Yes. Many times.”
But in a recent conference at Cannes the mother-of-four claimed she had been misquoted.
“From memory, the conversation ran, ‘Have you had relationships with women?’ And I said, ‘Yes, many times. If you mean I’ve had sexual relationships with them, the answer is ‘No’,” she said, “But that obviously didn’t make it to print.”
The journalist who wrote the story, however, denies that he misquoted her, tweeting, “When I asked Cate Blanchett if she’d had lesbian relationships in real life, she said: ‘Many times.’ She was accurately quoted.”
Cate, however, isn’t fussed about the “lesbian” tag.
“In 2015, the point should be: ‘Who cares?'” she added.
Cate is currently in Cannes promoting her new film, Carol.
