Now though host of The Project and her partner Chris Walker are over the moon after welcoming their first child together, daughter Evie, on March 18.
“I’ve been in text contact with Chris and they’re very, very excited,” spills Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann, a close friend and regular on the show.
“I can’t think of a more deserving woman.”
The usually private Carrie, 34, took to Instagram to share her joy and introduce her little girl to the world, posting a super-cute black-and-white photo.
“Welcome to this crazy world little Evie… so happy u arrived safely. Xx” she also tweeted.
As one of the most popular personalities on TV, Carrie’s happiness is shared by peers and fans alike.
“Carrie has been the ballast that’s held the ship steady for the past 12 months,” Lehmo tells us. “And on top of that she’s been pregnant, and she’s now had a baby, and I think she’s worked really hard, she has incredible talent and she really deserves it.”
It’s Carrie’s strength in the face of tragedy though that is truly inspiring. Her husband Greg Lange passed away from an aggressive form of brain cancer five years ago, leaving devastated Carrie to raise their son Ollie, now seven, on her own.
“He was a massively supportive husband who loved being at home,” she told National Features shortly after his death. “Any mum will tell you getting the balance right between work and home is always hard.”
Her son, who she calls “the most important thing in my life”, helped her through her grief.
“Every single morning, no matter how tired I am, I see these eyes beaming down on me from beside my bed,” she said. “I do love that time with him. He jumps into bed and we have a snuggle.
“I love that when I look at Ollie I see Greg in him, because it means he’s always present – he’s always there,” she tells The Australian Women’s Weekly.
Now Carrie can also credit partner Chris, a TV producer who worked with her on The Project, for giving her the “happy future” she hoped for.
“Chris is quite incredible with Ollie,” says Carrie. “Especially in the way that he helps Ollie process grief and how he’s feeling.
“He’s great with kids. He’s been an incredible support to me too.”
