“It is a girl and she’s three weeks old,” the 30-year-old gushed to the Irish talk show host as she revealed she had welcomed her first child with husband, Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford.
The exciting news comes days after E! News confirmed the British star had become a mum.
“Carey has given birth to a healthy and happy baby,” a source close to the couple explained, adding, “She is just enjoying this time with her family and close friends.”
While an insider told Us Magazine, “The baby is healthy. They have been loving being parents and their friends and family are thrilled.”
The new mother is currently promoting her new film, Suffragette, with Meryl Streep.
During her time on the talk show, Carey didn’t discuss much about her baby girl, but Mama Mulligan looked fantastic.
Showing off her post-baby body, the new mum looked very chic in a black plunging blazer and fitted trousers.
Before giving birth, Carey had stayed mum on her pregnancy, never officially confirming she was going to become a parent.
The Great Gatsby actress who married her rocker husband back in 2012, recently admitted to Elle UK that she was very excited about motherhood.
“I’ve always wanted to be a mother. I love what I do, but I’m excited for this next phase of my life,” she told the British publication.
In April, Carey’s good friend, actress Sienna Miller, chatted about how down to earth they are – despite their fame.
“They both come from very solid families and have a real sense of the life they want to live,” Sienna told Vogue back in April.
“They have chickens and a dog, and roasts and friends, jams by campfires. It’s sort of idyllic. Marcus can headline Glastonbury and Carey can be nominated for however many Oscars, and then they come back to their farm, and they’re in big woolly jumpers and funny hats, raising piglets. It’s an amazing balance they’ve managed to strike. I can’t wait for a little baby to come along.”
