“The knives were out”: What Candice Warner left out of her tell-all memoir

She wanted to reveal the truth.

When Candice Warner dropped a bombshell earlier this year that she was releasing a tell-all memoir where no topic will be off limits, it didn’t take long for the news to reach a handful of past and present cricket WAGs who were rightly worried there may well be an entire chapter dedicated to their exclusive little club!

And as news spread across their WhatsApp groups that she was about to spill the beans, no one was more shaken and shocked than former WAG boss Kyly Clarke!

According to a reliable source, Candice was left in two minds on whether to write about what really went down with Kyly and her then husband, Australian Test captain Michael Clarke, but has “decided to leave out anything at all about the Clarkes, and any of the other WAGs from over the years”.

She announced the memoir earlier this year.

“The stuff that she eventually left out of the book – it would have been a guaranteed bestseller,” says our spy. “Any one of those WAGs who have seen Candice in action know that you don’t mess with her – so in a way, she’s done them all a favour by not airing their dirty laundry!”

According to our source, Candice’s husband David Warner, 36, and Michael were close friends for years but everything changed when they started dating their respective partners.

“The women disliked each other from the get-go – no one really knows what happened, but the knives were out. They used to tolerate each other but it was tense being around them. The boys were completely swayed in opinion by their new girlfriends, and they drifted apart very quickly.

“There’s still rivalry between Dave and Clarkey even off the field – Dave is rumoured to have signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Fox Sports while Clarkey lost his broadcasting gig in India after his infamous Noosa stoush.”

She chose to exclude some “bestselling” details.

As for the rest of the WAGS, Candice made no secret there were a few over the years she steered clear of, says our insider.

“While Dave and Steve Smith are close teammates, Candice has never really had much in common with his wife Dani Willis. After Sandpapergate in South Africa, she and Dani should’ve bonded, considering both their husbands were banned for a year but they didn’t.

“These days, Candice is a fulltime working mum – she just can’t cop the sort of WAGs who swan around the team hotels and players’ boxes thinking they’re the landed gentry!

“There’s one current WAG who thinks because her husband is quite senior that she deserves to be the new Kyly and is desperate to topple Candice and become the new boss.”

As tempting as it must have been to share a few juicy cricket tour tales of whining WAGs demanding extra nannies, requests for baristas in the players’ VIP boxes and wanting their own personal chauffeurs, for now the former champion ironwoman and mum-of-three has spared them any more pain!

While she may have kept tightlipped for some, our insider spills that the memoir, Running Strong, still packs plenty of punch – including that now infamous toilet tryst with rugby star Sonny Bill Williams.

BUMPY LAUNCH

With just a week until its release, the book is already causing plenty of waves, with Candice choosing to brutally snub some media outlets who’ve asked to promote it.

“Candice turned down A Current Affair because she didn’t want to give the TV exclusive to host Ally Langdon, after she had plenty of not nice things to say about Candice and Dave over the years,” the source explains.

“She has decided to sit down with Sarah Harris from The Project, who is someone she trusts and respects.”
