Cameron Diaz is a officially a married woman! And in an adorable wedding speech, the blushing bride revealed the reason why she waited so long to get hitched.
Cameron, 42 married rocker Benji Madden, 35, in a backyard ceremony at her Beverly Hills home surrounded by their celebrity family and friends.
“I waited because I didn’t want to settle,” Cameron said in a touching speech as part of the wedding toasts.
Cameron was no doubt addressing her famous assertions that she had no interest in the institution of marriage. She’s previously said: “A lot of people chase after it because they’ve been told ‘This equals happiness’.
“They chase it, they get it, and they find out ‘Why did I think this was going to make me happy? I’m miserable!’ I don’t know if anyone is really naturally monogamous. We all have the same instincts as animals.”
In her bridal speech though, Cameron revealed that really she was just holding out for right man for her: “Now I got the best man ever. My special man. He’s mine.”
For Benji’s speech meanwhile, he managed to get a few laughs remarked on the organisation of the extravagant occasion: “I only asked to be in control of two things: The music and the cake.”
Cameron might have waited a long time for her Mr Right, but once she found him, she wasn’t wasting any time! The pair tied the knot after first getting together just nine months ago.
They wed in the new year after only becoming engaged in December.
Although it was a whirlwind romance, it seems the big day was well planned out, with a star-studded guest list including Cameron’s good pal Nicole Richie who reportedly set the pair up, as well as Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Samantha Ronson, Toni Collette and Robin Antin.
