Welcome to the world Caitlyn, we’ve been waiting for you.
Olympian Bruce Jenner has finally revealed her true self to the world in a stunning cover of Vanity Fair magazine.
The reality star confirmed to the publication her name is Caitlyn Jenner as she donned a white silk corset, with flowing loose curls cascading over her shoulders and natural make-up for the beautiful cover shoot.
“The last few days of doing this shoot is about my life and who I am as a person,” Caitlyn told the magazine, she added: “It’s not about the fanfare, it’s not about the people cheering in the stadium, it’s not about going down the street and everyone giving you a ‘that-a-boy Bruce’ pat on the back, this is about your life.”
As for her illustrious sporting career, she mused: “I was probably at the games because I was running away from a lot of things.”
The 65-year-old underwent 10 hours of facial feminsing surgery in March, as well as breast implants, although is yet to proceed with a full sex change.
The Keeping up with the Kardashians star told the publication that she had a panic attack after coming out of surgery and her first thoughts were: “What did I just do? What did I just do to myself?”
It was temporary though, as a counselor assured Caitlyn that they were “human” feelings and likely a result of pain medication.
“If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life,” she told Vanity Fair, before adding: “You never dealt with yourself, and I don’t want that to happen.”
She continued: “Bruce always had to live a lie, he was always living that lie, everyday he always had a secret from morning to night.”
The relieved parent of six explained, “Caitlyn doesn’t have any secrets, as the Vanity Fair cover comes out I’m free.”
As expected the Kardashian / Jenner clan took to social media to praise their loved one.
Step-daughter and queen of social media Kim Kardashian told her 32.2 million followers: “Everyone please follow @Caitlyn_Jenner on twitter! xoxo,” as a result she already has over a 1 million supporters on the social network.
Her debut tweet was powerful and fitting: “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”
19-year-old Kendall Jenner wrote: “Be free now pretty bird.”
While Khloe Kardashian, who has been open about her struggle coming to terms with Caitlyn’s transition, took to Instagram to share the Vanity Fair cover and added: “We were given this life because you were strong enough to live it! I couldn’t be prouder!!! Caitlyn, You are beautiful!!”
Daughter-in-law Leah Jenner shared: “You’re finally free,” and Kourtney Kardashian, known for keeping things simple, told twitter: “Freedom! Stunning. #Caitlyn.”
According to the Guinness World Records, Caitlyn’s twitter became the fastest account to reach one million followers in just four hours and three minutes. This beats American President Barack Obama’s Twitter account, that scored one million followers in a mere five hours.
Clearly moved by the influx of support, Caitlyn followed up and wrote via the micro-blogging site: “Another Jenner world record, and at 65? Who’da thought! Humbled & honored to have reached 1M followers in 4 hrs. Thank you for your support.”
Meanwhile Barack Obama also reached out by re-tweeting the star’s original tweet alongside the message: “It takes courage to share your story.”
In the no-holds-barred interview, Caitlyn claimed she was “mistreated” by former wife Kris Jenner.
“Twenty percent was gender and 80 percent was the way I was treated. A lot of times she wasn’t very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money … all that kind of stuff,” the reality star told the publication of the reasons behind their split.
Their dynamic changed even more after the family began filming hit show Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
“The first 15 years I felt she needed me more because I was the breadwinner. Then really around the show, when that hit and she was running this whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn’t need me as much from that standpoint,” the gold medalist said.
But when the publication spoke Kris, she denied her former partner’s allegations and claimed they broke up because of the athlete’s “social anxieties.”
“He was married to me and he wasn’t who he wanted to be so he was miserable. All I was doing was working very hard for my family so that we could all have a wonderful future, and he was pissed off,” the mother-of-six explained.
Before adding: “At the end of my relationship with Bruce he definitely had a lot of social anxiety. That was one of the reasons we were in a struggle at the end. We fought a lot because we would go out together and before we got to the end of the block we were in a fight because he started saying, ‘When can we go home?'”
The publication also reached out to Caitlyn’s mother, Esther Jenner, 85, who told the magazine she will still be calling the Olympian by his birth name Bruce.
“I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that. It’s going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so… I’m very happy for him – or her,’ Esther said. Despite this, Esther says the star is “so much more at ease” since unveiling her transition.
However, when Esther first learnt of the surgery she would be undergoing she was worried her daughter may be doing it for the wrong reasons. “I woke up one night and all I was thinking about is: Why is it necessary (for Caitlyn) to go through all these surgeries? Is this all about making money? And that was bothering me.”
“He’s lived a life the last 25 years – and I don’t know if it was both he and Kris or mainly Kris – it seemed like their lifestyle was about money; that’s why it came to my mind,” Esther said.
Following the amazing outpouring of support, Caitlyn will be awarded with the revered Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPY Awards in July.
Jenner will accept the accolade as Caitlyn and in a statement she said of the prestigious honour: “In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible.”
“However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers.”
Caitlyn Jenner truly is an inspiration!
