The Project’s Carrie Bickmore was upstaged during her own show last night when an audience member took control of the action to propose to his girlfriend.
After showing a package of good news highlights from around the world, Carrie gave a special shout-out to audience member Tara, who’s battling breast cancer.
“We just want to give a shout-out to one of our audience members tonight who is with us, had a huge year, battling breast cancer, almost finished chemo, we know you are here with your boyfriend Jarred, we want to say good luck. Jarred, she seems like an absolutely incredible woman,” Carrie said, before Tara’s now-fiance Jarred decided to take the reins and create a little good news of his own.
“Tara is probably the strongest, most toughest person I’ve ever met, she is the best mum, the best partner, she is my best friend, we make the best team and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Tara.”
He then got down on one knee and searched his pocket for the ring he’d no doubt been nervously carrying around.
“Will you marry me?”
It didn’t take long for Tara to come to her decision: “Oh my god yes.”
Cue: many happy tears and applause.
Fellow Project presenter Ryan ‘Fitzy ‘ Fitzgerald then handed the couple a huge bunch of congratulatory flowers.
“You did well, big fella, because we could see you sweating the whole time,” Fitzy said.
Sorry Carrie, but congratulations to the newly engaged couple and thank you for ending our week on a high note.
