Turia Pitt has gone viral once again, this time for her inspirational post about body confidence in the face of yet another surgery.
Turia had a laser procedure last week and has noticed more people staring at her than usual as her skin blistered and scabbed over after the surgery.
In a candid Instagram post, Turia revealed that while the stares hurt, she was determined to “own” her circumstances.
“I’ve been recovering from laser surgery for the past week,” she wrote. “Sometimes I get really self-conscious after surgery – I feel like everyone is having a huge stickybeak [sic] at me.
“This week I felt it big time, and yeah, it sucks. But you know what? Sometimes in life when you’re on a quest to improve yourself, no one else’s opinion or judgement matters.
“You’ve gotta own yourself and wear your challenges like a boss – after all, no one else is gonna do it for you!”
Turia suffered severe burns to 65 per cent of her body when she was caught in a bushfire while running an ultra-marathon in 2011.
She has since become a national icon and an inspiration to people across the country and overseas.
