A determined Brad Pitt has been fighting in court for more than four years to get his kids back, and now his ex Angelina Jolie’s rumoured financial woes could finally see him win that battle.
And better still, the actor may be able to live with his mini-me daughter Shiloh again for good.
An insider tells Woman’s Day, “Brad’s feeling quietly confident that he’ll see more of the younger children in the future, and his greatest hope is that Shiloh, who he has always shared a tight bond with, may even speak up to say she wants to move in with her dear old dad.”
Until now, any prospect of spending quality time again with his five youngest children, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14 and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, has been crushed by Angelina’s cutthroat bid to maintain full custody of them.
Since their split in 2016, the unrelenting actress has spent a small fortune in legal fees and countless hours dragging out their divorce, but now there are suspicions she may no longer have the money to fight much longer.
FIRE SALE
The Maleficent star sold a rare Winston Churchill painting – a romantic gift from Brad in 2011 – for a whopping $14.9 million, sparking speculation that she was after a quick cash fix to fund her ongoing legal battle.
“If you ask Camp Brad, their take on her selling the Churchill is that she needs the money. She’s living off royalties and well outside her means right now because she’s not working, and even though she’s worth around $100 million, she has a lot of staff and real estate to pay for – not to mention kids with increasingly expensive tastes as they get older,” says a source.
“Brad’s friends think she’s struggling with the pressure of running a six-kid household on her own – and where she can, she refuses Brad’s help out of sheer pride.”
TOUGH TIMES
There’s also the emotional cost of living through such a public, drawn-out split.
Angelina, 45, admitted recently that the acrimonious divorce from Brad had taken a toll on her and the kids, telling British Vogue, “The past few years have been pretty hard. I’ve been focusing on healing our family… But I’m not there. I’m not there yet.”
For 57-year-old Brad, who wants joint custody of their five kids (at 19, their oldest son Maddox is considered an adult), he’s just doing his best to focus on putting forward the strongest case for him being a devoted father.
“Brad’s not too fazed about Angelina selling off gifts he gave her when they were in love,” says the insider.
“He’s doing really well – his career and production company are flourishing, he is sober and surrounded by good influences, and the longer she drags out the custody battle, the more chances he has to show the judge how much he’s changed for the better.”
As for whether he’ll be able to spend more time with Shiloh and her siblings any time soon – or better yet, get his wish to live with them again – he may have to brace himself for some pushback from their mother.
“Angelina will lose her mind if that happens as she is most protective of Shiloh out of all her children, but Brad’s in a good enough place right now where he doesn’t care what she thinks, as long as the kids are happy,” says the insider.
