Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are officially speaking again

Wait! Is it the nineties again?

In the last six months we’ve witnessed the reemergence of berry lips, choker necklaces and pink-tinged hair… and now another nineties staple is making a comeback: Bennifer.

The former couple, who called it quits in 2005 after a highly-publicised divorce, recently reconnected when Brad Pitt made the effort to wish Jennifer Aniston a happy birthday. The Horrible Bosses actress turned 48 on February 11.

Brad, it seems, went to an awful amount of effort, tracking down Jen’s mobile phone number through “a tangled web” of contacts, according to a source in the new issue of Us Weekly.

“They started talking once he wished her a happy birthday,” the insider said.

Bennifer, who were married for five years, were once Hollywood’s golden couple.

The source adds that Brad, who originally contacted Jen via text, has also “confided” in his former flame about his ongoing divorce and custody battle.

The 53-year-old actor is in the process of splitting from his estranged wife Angelina Jolie, who he wed in 2014. Angelina reportedly filed for divorce following a fight between Brad and their eldest child Maddox, while the family was aboard a private jet.

“Brad told her he’s having a hard time with his split and they exchanged a few texts reminiscing about the past,” the insider noted.

But it seems their newfound contact is nothing more than a friendly back and forth.

Jen is now married to actor Justin Theroux and according to Us Weekly’s source, the 45-year-old star isn’t the least bit threatened by Bennifer’s reconnection.

“Justin is OK with them being friends,” said the source, apparently he’s well acquainted with Jen just waiting to “be nice.”

While she’s had a troublesome love life in the past, Jen is now in an extremely happy place. Speaking about her hubby before tying the knot, Jen chatted with Harper’s Bazaar.

“Not only is he a great actor but he’s one of the best comedy writers out there. And he directs and paints murals. I just think it’s so attractive to be that good at so many things and to have no ego,” she said in the 2014 interview.

“He’s one of the most humble, decent human beings. He’s not an ass. He’s not like some of our friends who are young and up-and-coming and they hit celebrity, and all of a sudden you’re like, ‘Oh! You’re different. Now you don’t say hi to people?’”

Jen and Justin married in 2015.

Jen says the pair, who got engaged back in August 2012, just click and can spend endless amounts of time together.

“It’s almost impossible to get bored with one another,” she added. “We’ve tried so hard! And even that’s interesting because his eyes are so pretty, but we can entertain ourselves and talk about endless things, which is pretty great.”

Brad famously left her for his co-star Angelina Jolie. But Jen says she doesn’t hold a grudge.

“[I’m] a forgiving person,” she said. “I absolutely am. I think it’s extremely important to forgive. Otherwise it just builds up like toxic waste. There’s nothing worse than holding a grudge. Listen, people can do unforgivable things, but you have to let it go and say, ‘Look, we’re all human beings. We make mistakes.’ To hold any kind of resentment is like taking rat poison and waiting for the rat to die.”

Perhaps dinner at the Anniston-Theroux’s will be on the cards soon?
