The pair were left shocked after discovering their handwritten love letters, detailing secrets of their relationship, have gone missing from their French chateau.
“Brad went into a panic because he couldn’t find them,” a close friend of the 51-year-old actor says.
“He’s terrified they were lifted by someone who wants to publicly humiliate them.”
The letters were exchanged by the pair when they were separated by work commitments in 2013.
Angelina was in Australia directing Unbroken, while Brad was working in the UK. She confirmed the pair exchanged letters “back and forth, 1940s style,” sat a press conference promoting her movie.
“What I know about him as a man and what I have learned from living with this great man and seeing the choices he makes with our family, our children, the way he treats me and the values he holds,” she of their letter exchange.
While the letters taught Ange more about her husband, they also contained explicit details which they don’t want getting out in public, including how the couple considered adopting another baby.
“Brad was open about how he worried that Ange might fall for a woman again,” the source says.
“He poured his heart out about the problems he had in his previous marriage to Jennifer Aniston, so she may be dragged into this mortifying mess as well!” says another friend.
The loss of the personal letters couldn’t come at a worse time for the pair, who have just weathered an emotional storm with Angelina’s preventative surgery in March.
