The Matildas have inspired young girls across Australia, proving that women’s sports deserve to be watched just as much as the mens.
Last Saturday’s nail-biting match against France put them into the semi-finals for the first time ever in FIFA Women’s World Cup history!
Aussie sports teams are rallying around our women’s soccer team, with male basketball team the Boomers moving their game two hours backwards! Now that’s what we call true-blue sportsmanship.
The Boomers were seen cheering in green and gold for their female soccer counterparts at the game box, going crazy at the penalty shootout. Captioned: “Our boys riding the Tillies wave with Australia.”
Their comment section was flooded with sports fans asking the boys to move their basketball game so it doesn’t clash with the Matildas.
“Please switch the time of the game so we can watch both our fav Aussie teams play on Wednesday.”
“My husband and son are flying to Melbourne to see the Boomers game Wed, but are devastated they will miss the semi-final.”
“As a ticket holder for Wednesday’s game please switch so we are able to watch the Tillys!”
They heard their country’s pleas and moved the game against Brazil from 7:45 to 5:30 pm to not clash with the Matildas’ game against our greatest rival England at 8 pm tonight. Fans were so excited with the news:
“Great to see all sporting teams working together. Let’s go Boomers.”
“Let’s go @australianboomers and @matildas.”
“Thank you for avoiding the clash!”
Boomers captain Patty Mills told Nine World Wide News,
“Supporting our fellow Australian athletes is crucial, so moving our game was an easy decision.”
“We are now super excited to join the rest of Australia in watching the ladies on Wednesday after we play our second game in Melbourne.”
