The day after Australia’s own Bindi Irwin claimed the Dancing With The Star’s mirror ball trophy for her own, the 17-year-old has opened up about how the experience changed her.
Speaking on Good Morning America, Bindi gushed about how the cast and crew had become like a family (“even more than animals!”)
“I have been blessed enough to work with this beautiful family,” said Bindi, “I feel like my family as been extended.”
The wildlife warrior also went on to talk about how her dancing foray has changed her, saying, “This experience will forever be a part of my life and will live in my heart.”
Bindi was joined on set by her mother Terri who revealed that Bindi’s dancing success was a bit of a surprise.
“Bindi’s the most optimistic person on planet earth and I hope that rubs off on everybody, but we never knew she could dance!” said Terri, “It’s been an extraordinary journey for someone who didn’t know that tiny dancer was within her and I’m very proud of her.”
Bindi, 17, took out the trophy last night after she was awarded another set of 10s for another perfect dance. It was her partner, Derek Hough’s, sixth trophy as a dancing partner, who had nothing but praise for Bindi.
“This girl is so special, We have had an amazing journey. I love this girl so much,” said Derek.
Which was returned in full by Bindi.
“This entire experience has truly changed my life. And it is thanks to my beautiful family, and to Derek – he is the greatest big brother on this earth,”
“Every single week he had created these beautiful dances which mean so much to who I am as a person and have just represented my life.”
Bindi also took to her Instagram to post an emotional thank you following her win, “I am speechless. This is a gift and I can’t tell you how much love I have for all of your support throughout this beautiful journey. My life has been changed.”
Congratulations Bindi!
