Bindi Irwin and husband Chandler Powell have been travelling nonstop over the past few months in what insiders say is “a much-needed break from the zoo”.
In images shared on social media, Bindi, 24, who has been recovering from endometriosis surgery, looked relieved to be taking a break as friends reveal she and Terri had a “difficult” heart-to-heart over two-year-old daughter Grace.
The toddler went viral last week for her gorgeous cover photo on the family’s Crikey magazine, but unfortunately the excitement didn’t last long.
“Bindi’s slightly triggered by it,” says an insider. “Publicly, she’s supportive, but behind closed doors she’s uncomfortable and doesn’t want her daughter in the spotlight at such a young age.
“She needed to set some new boundaries with her mum regarding Grace. She’s not going to let her get swallowed up into the family business, like Bindi was, before Grace even knows how to sign her name.”
Friends say Bindi, who was the same age as Grace when she first appeared on her dad’s show, has “changed forever” after her March 7 operation, and her ordeal has made her even more protective of Grace.
“Bindi often wonders what she’d have done had her dad not been on the telly,” adds the insider.
“Grace is the apple of her eye and she’s not willing to offer her up to the public now. She loves her mum and will always support the zoo, but she and Chandler want Grace to figure out who she is before she’s bundled up into a brand.”
“She’s told Terri it’s going to be different this time around and she wants to give her little girl a shot at her own life.”
