Following in her father’s footsteps, Bindi has opened the doors to the tropicalBindi’s Islandon the Sunshine Coast.

The new attraction was a passion project of her late father Steve and after 10 years, Bindi, with the help of the government and Australia Zoo, have been able to bring Steve’s dream to life.

“I am so proud of the hard work that our Australia Zoo family put into creating Bindi’s Island. It is truly amazing to see Dad’s dream come true, after he first breathed life into this project over 10 years ago,” said Bindi.

“I feel blessed beyond words to be able to experience the joy that the island brings to all those who visit Australia Zoo.” she added.

Three lucky families were the first guests to step foot on the island with Bindi and her family. They were greeted on arrival with leis, traditional island dancers, drummers and ukulele players, drinking coconuts and island mocktails before departing on a special tour of the new exhibit with Bindi.

The tropical island is home to an amazing three-storey tree house inspired by Bindi’s work on her TV show, Bindi the Jungle Girl, and the film Return to Nim’s Island. From the tree house there are views of the zoo’s cheeky ring-tailed lemurs and two Giant Aldabran Tortoises named Coconut and Jarvis.
