Behind the scenes: The Weekly’s must see Most Stylish Women luncheon

In the May issue of The Australian Women's Weekly, the fashion team met with a distinguished judging panel to decide on the top 20 most stylish women in the country.

A lunch to discuss what the Australian style and what makes the Australian sensibility different to other stylish women around the world, and to find the top 20 ‘Most Stylish Australian’

Canapés

Crab tart with saffron and chili custard.

Heirloom baby tomato, basil and pecorino on crisp.

Appetisers

Salad of Moreton Bay bug, prawn, pea cream, apple, radish, trout roe, chervil.

Seared scallops, skara bacon, corn purée, faro, basil salsa.

Woodside buffalo curd, fresh fig, beetroot, olive, pine kernel caramel.

Main course

Sage gnocchi, cauliflower, nameko mushroom, hazelnut, taleggio.

Queensland prawns, cherry truss tomato, fennel salad, pollen, radish sprout.

Cone Bay barramundi, prawn caponata, summer beans, asparagus, artichoke basil cream.

Beef tenderloin, spinach cream, confit eschalot, mushroom, gruyere croquette, herb butter.Served with bowls of green salad.

Dessert

Salted caramel, chocolate peanut tart, banana fritter, chocolate ice cream.

Vanilla cheesecake, berries, coconut crumble, raspberry sorbet.

Strawberry, rhubarb, peach, mascarpone, meringue, strawberry jelly, sorbet.

Highlight:

At the end of the day the list of the top 20 was not what we expected. We have come up with a range of women each with their own sensibility and stylish aesthetic that is truly unique.

Quote of the day:

Bianca Spender: “I think anyone can look beautiful with 10c in their pocket, you can go to thrift shops and create a look and I don’t think you have to be wealthy to have a unique proposition into style. But I think it can make a lot more people look more stylish than they are and I think it’s important to try and separate what is good style and made style”.
