Last night was the perfect evening to step outside with a freshly brewed tea and look up at the sky because perched above the city skyscrapers, quiet suburbs, and wholesome farms was a super blood moon and solar eclipse.
For those lucky enough to see it on their way home or for moon watchers, the rare moment was a beauty to behold.
According to Seven News, the super blood moon happens under a total lunar eclipse when “the moon is in perigee,” which is when “the closest point to Earth is in orbit.”
The fantastical moment was made even more incredible by the deep rough colour that illuminated the moon.
A video by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory explained this happens because sunlight is filtering through the “Earth’s atmosphere and sunsets happening around our planet at the time.”
The Guardian reported that the last time this event occurred was in 2018 and that “unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to look at.”
This is good news for these Aussie celebrities who spent last night romantically gazing at the sight to behold.
The Project presenter Lisa Wilkinson posted an Instagram story with the words “Have you seen it yet?” and “#bloodmooneclipse,” to point her followers in the direction of the sky.
Megan Gale posted a strikingly orange picture of the moon with the cute caption, “The best shot I could get of Lady Luna tonight.”
The model’s struggle to adequately capture the moon’s beauty was a frustration felt by most smartphone owners who just wanted a show that accurately captured its magnificence.
TV presenter Sonia Kruger posted a snap of the moon looking big and bright over big green trees.
Lastly, former Bachelor star Snezana Wood posted an image of herself looking stunning with a picture of the red moon.
“🌚🌞🌘🙌🏽The Supermoon Eclipse – WOW moon up high in the sky,” she wrote.
