For most of us, when Mother’s Day rolls around, we think of flowers and chocolates – maybe some jewellery, or a dinner date. But Ashton Kutcher, of $5,000 phone cases and $200,000 cars fame, wasn’t going to stick to a simple breakfast in bed.
To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, the Two and a Half Men star decided to go the extra mile and renovate his mother’s entire house.
“It’s my way of saying thank you to my mom,” said Kutcher, “My mom has been like the greatest influence in my life, and anything I can do to say thank you is the right thing to do.”
Kutcher, who recently welcomed seven-month-old baby Wyatt with wife, Mila Kunis, completed gutted and remodelled his mother’s Iowa home. Teaming up with My Houzz, the renovation took place over 27 days and the process Kutcher and his step father knocked down walls, built in fireplaces and raised the roof of the entire house.
“It’s a house I helped build with my stepdad [Mark] when I was 13 but these days we’ve all moved out and kind of outgrown the space,” said Kutcher, “I just had a daughter, my sister just had a new son. And I want to make it fit for the next generation … They’re going to be living with grandkids running around.”
But the downside of the remodel being a surprise is, well … it’s a surprise. Kutcher’s mother had no idea he was doing it, and didn’t exactly give him permission, either.
“We’re tearing the entire house apart so if my mom doesn’t like it, somebody’s in big trouble,” joked the actor.
We think he’s in the clear.
