She’s an Australian tennis legend and World Number One, but now Ash Barty is set to add another title to her resume: wife.
Ash announced on Tuesday night that she is engaged to her long-term partner Garry Kissick, confirming the news in a beautiful Instagram post.
“Future husband,” the 25-year-old tennis great captioned a photo, showing off her stunning engagement ring.
Garry revealed they became engaged on November 15 in his own Instagram post.
“I love you Ash Barty,” the 30-year-old wrote, adding the date in his caption.
The couple’s famous friends were quick to congratulate them on the engagement news, capturing the joy of Ash’s many fans who were beyond excited to see the photo.
“Yerrrrrr legend !!!! How good,” commented Elyse Knowles.
“Congratulations Ash & Garry!! What a match!” added Sunrise presenter Mark Beretta.
Meanwhile one of their fans noted that Garry had popped the question in a Liverpool F.C. jersey, like any true devoted fan would!
The pair initially met in 2016 at the Brookwater Golf Club where Garry worked.
Ash was at the club to play a round of golf, but little did she know her life would never be the same again – Ash and Garry immediately clicked and began dating.
But their relationship didn’t go public until 2017, when Ash brought Garry as her date to the John Newcombe Awards (where she received Australian tennis’ highest honour).
When they went public, a smitten Garry happily wore his heart on his sleeve, declaring his girlfriend “my baby” and insisting Ash was “the best person I’ve ever met”.
“They’re really the most normal couple you’ll find at that level in tennis,” says one insider of the loved-up duo.
“It’s refreshing because you often see mismatched liaisons in this sport, with some partners unable to cope with the public attention always focused on the person they love and not on them.
“But Ash and Garry support each other as equals in a down-to-earth way – neither of them want to be ‘the star’.”
