On Monday, a judge ruled the 16-year-old actress will keep living with her adult sister, Shanelle Gray, after an agreement was reached just before a trial was set to begin to determine who would care for the teenager.
The child star’s mother, Chrisoula Workman agreed to drop her opposition to the guardianship if Winter watched a video montage of family photos before the court adjourned.
The Superior Court Judge, Daniel Murphy allowed the video and according to reports Ariel and Shanelle became emotional and teary as they watched the footage from their childhood.
Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, has been under a temporary guardianship with her sister since 2012 and upon ruling Justice Murphy said it would be up to the teenager whether she wanted to have contact with her mother.
Workman is alleged to have both physically and emotionally abused Winter.
“I have never abused my daughter,” Workman reiterated on Monday.
Winter’s father, Glenn Workman, will have control of the actress’s finances and will have to make reports to the court. After the proceedings, Gray and Workman issued a joint statement saying, “the family has moved beyond the conflict.”
