Last month the actor announced that he had joined London’s Central Saint Martins, the fashion school that birthed designers such as Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney and he has finally explained why.

In an interview with the schools’ magazine 1 Granary he revealed, “What am I doing here? Knowledge. I’m here to gain knowledge, basically.”

Antonio posted this picture to reveal he had enrolled in Fashion School.

The 55-year-old added: “I got to a point where I’ve done 92 movies – I am not going to stop – I’m going to continue doing movies and producing, and I want to direct more – but there were other things in my life that I was interested in.”

Antonio’s studies at the prestigious school focus heavily on men’s fashion and he explained that it was his perfume business Puig which lead him into design.

“The world of perfume is very close to fashion,” he said. “At Puig we have many people that are in the fashion world, and for them perfumes are an accessory.”

“What do you think of my new laptop? Having the time of my life at Central Saint Martins.” Antonio often updates his fans via social media about his latest venture.

There was also a more personal reason why the Spanish heartthrob made the movie to study fashion, “Last year my personal life took a turn and I decided to take some steps ahead,” referring to his split with his wife of almost 20 years Melanie Griffith

He added: “As something that had been cooking in my brain for a while, I decided to put a company together called Antonio Banderas Designs, which encompasses the perfumes that have been there for 19 years, but I also jumped into the world of glasses.”

Antonio plans to leave his mark on the design world too by bringing the cape into men’s fashion, which seems perfectly fitting for the Zorro actor.

“There is one garment that I love that was lost in menswear a long time ago, and I would like to experiment with it: the cape,” he said, before adding, “and it is, in a way, so logical, coming from Zorro!”
