We never really needed an excuse to watch hilarious cat videos, but now we have one.
New research reveals people feel “more energetic” and “more positive” after watching cat-related footage.
The study was conducted by Jessica Gall Myrick, an assistant professor at the Indiana University Media School, and surveyed almost 7000 participants.
Other than revealing cat video viewers are better people, the research also showed cat videos are viewed most when people are working and studying.
However, cat videos are only searched for 25 per cent of the time, with the majority being viewed as internet users come across them.
“Some people may think watching online cat videos isn’t a serious enough topic for academic research, but the fact is that it’s one of the most popular uses of the Internet today,” Myrick told the Indiana University Bloomington Newsroom.
“If we want to better understand the effects the Internet may have on us as individuals and on society, then researchers can’t ignore Internet cats anymore.”
So to help you feel “more energetic” and “more positive”, here are four of The Weekly’s favourite cat videos. Enjoy!
1. Cat Jump Fail to Sail
More people watched this cat than AWOLNATION’s ‘Official Music Video’ for Sail, with this furry feline receiving 3 million more views than the band itself.
2. Patty Cake Cats
These cats playing patty cake have had over 20 million viewers, thanks to some excellent voice overs.
3. OMG Cat
