Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Hathaway revealed that Streep, who played Miranda Priestly, a fictional version of the straight-talking Vogue editor Anna Wintour, was just as cold as her on-screen character.
“When I met her she gave me a huge hug,” Hathaway said, “and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, we are going to have the best time on this movie,’ and then she’s like, ‘Ah sweetie, that’s the last time I’m nice to you.’
“She then went into her trailer and came out the ice queen and that was really the last I saw of ‘Meryl’ for months, until we promoted the film,” Hathaway said.
Streep is a known adherent to the school of method acting, in which the actor inhabits a role and follows in the character’s footprints.
