It’s a classic case of ‘spoke too soon’.
Earlier this week, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp finally reached a divorce settlement of $7 million after what has undoubtedly been one of the most acrimonious splits in Hollywood history.
Shortly after this settlement was reached, Amber’s lawyers, Samantha F. Spector and Joseph Koenig, issued a statement saying that they were “pleased” with the outcome, and that her client had been “vindicated in the Court of Public Opinion.”
Hours later, the 30-year-old’s legal team retracted this statement and issued an apology to the star’s former husband, as the comments were made without Amber Heard’s approval.
“The statement made today on behalf of myself and Joseph Koenig was made without the knowledge or approval of Amber Heard. The statement is untrue and we retract it, without qualification.
“My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologize to Johnny Depp.”
As previously reported earlier this week, Amber withdrew her request for restraining order against her 53-year-old ex-husband, while the former couple confirmed the end to their tumultuous split with a carefully-worded, joint statement.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain.”
It continued: “There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”
News of the settlement comes just days after a video allegedly showing Johnny smashing glasses in a fit of rage was leaked to the media, as well as a claim by Amber that Johnny left her a message in blood that accused her of cheating with actor Billy Bob Thornton after he sliced off the tip of his finger in anger.
Meanwhile, the Fargo has broken his silence and denied Johnny’s alleged claims Amber had an affair with him.
“Amber never cheated on Johnny with Billy Bob,” a rep for Billy Bob told E! News.
