Johnny Depp’s wife Amber Heard will plead not guilty to charges that she smuggled her two pet terriers, Pistol and Boo, into Australia aboard a private jet.
Amber, 29, has told the Queensland courts she is willing to testify, and her lawyers have indicated Depp may also appear if his presence will not be too “disruptive” to the court.
The Telegraph in Britain says Amber’s decision to plead not guilty “will become apparent in court.”
“I respect the importance of Australia’s laws,” Amber said, in a statement.
“I look forward to attending the hearing of these matters.”
The penalty for trying to bypass Australia’s strict quarantine laws is up to 10 years in prison.
Pistol and Boo came to Australia aboard a private jet in May, while Depp was filming a Pirates of the Caribbean.
The Crown alleges that Amber did not declare the dogs. She is charged with illegally importing animals into the country, and producing a false document (her passenger arrival card, on which the dogs were not declared.)
