She acted alongside stars like Meryl Streep, Russell Crowe and Colin Firth, but in a recent interview, Amanda Seyfried as revealed that, despite her big name, she’s still getting paid less than her male co-stars.
A lot less.
In an interview with The Sunday Times Seyfried discussed film roles, legalising cannabis and sexism in Hollywood – of which she is still, sadly, a target.
“A few years ago, on one of my big budget films, I found I was being paid 10 per cent of what my male co-star was getting, and we were pretty even in status,” the 29-year-old told The Times, “I think people think that just because I’m easy going and game to do things, I’ll just take as little as they offer.”
Although she didn’t reveal who, or what film, dealt out the slashed paychecks, critics have put forth Channing Tatum (Seyfried acted beside him in Dear John in 2010), Domenic Cooper (Mamma Mia! 2008), or Justin Timberlake (In Time, 2011) as suspects.
But sitting on an estimated net worth of around $10 million US, Amanda says it’s not about the size of the paycheck, but the fairness of it.
“It’s not about how much you get, it’s about how fair it is. You have to decide if you’re willing to walk away from something, especially as a woman,” she said.
Amanda stars across from Mark Wahlberg in Ted 2 this weekend.
