A glimpse at Allison Langdon’s Instagram page would leave any parent envious of the life she leads with her first child, a boy, named Mack James Willesee. There’s cuddles, ocean swims and onesies free from unidentifiable stains.
But according to the 37-year-old her descent into motherhood was far from picture perfect.
Writing for 9 Honey, the Channel Nine journalist has revealed that the month’s before gorgeous Mack’s arrival into the world left her less than enthused with pregnancy. She explains that battling swollen feet and struggling to find clothes that fit her burgeoning belly left her entirely “indifferent.”
“Sure there is something miraculous about bringing a human being into this world but seriously, you’d think that over the years evolution would’ve come up with an easier way,” she writes.
The journalist and author went on to explain that her fast-paced job continued to demand a large amount of international travel well into her pregnancy.
“I was one of the lucky ones. I’ve seen friends hospitalised because their much-loved unborn child had made them that unwell. I didn’t suffer horrendous morning sickness however I did suffer homesickness,” she said.
“I craved my own bed and home cooked meals, instead I got plane rides and hotel rooms.”
In the candid column, Allison recalls that while she managed to escape the ills of morning sickness she wasn’t immune from “the odd bout of puking.”
While on assignment in China, Allison revealed that the interviewee before her nearly “wore” her latest episode of vomit.
“I made it to the bathroom in time, and as I rested my head on the rather unhygienic toilet seat (is there any other kind?) all I wanted to do was sleep but instead I headed back out with my vomit breath, just hoping I didn’t have chunks of porridge stuck in my hair,” she joked.
Despite narrowly avoiding an on-air bout of vomiting, it wasn’t until the fifth month of her pregnancy that she really began to feel the pressure – literally.
While exercising the much-loved television personality managed to displace a rib which led to a painful final four months. She explained that some days would leave her in “tears” because as her rather adorable bump grew in size, so did the pressure on her rib.
The mishap saw the reporter script stories and take phone interviews as she lay “flat on her back” on the office floor.
She concluded the emotional column by taking the time to applaud mothers of all different circumstances – those with more than one child, less compassionate bosses and difficult pregnancies alike.
Alison and her husband Michael Willesee Junior, welcomed their precious baby boy in January.
Sharing the exciting news on Instagram, she uploaded a beautiful shot of little Mack napping peacefully against her chest (above).
The image was captioned: “Look what we made! Introducing Mack James Willesee. Delight by day, devil by night!! Overwhelmed with love #ourbabyboy”
Speaking with 9Honey shortly after Mack’s birth, Allison said, “We find ourselves just staring at him, unable to believe we created this tiny human.”
“It’s amazing the emotions you feel, a love you can’t quite describe, protectiveness and fear. Besides the desire for a little more sleep, we wouldn’t change a thing.”
