Alec Baldwin, 54, and his 28-year-old wife, Hilaria Thomas, have announced they are expecting their first child together.
The actor and his yoga instructor wife, who married last June, said the pregnancy was not planned, but they were thrilled when they found out.
“We’re having a baby. (It) was a surprise, a wonderful surprise,” Hilaria told Extra TV, where she works as a presenter.
Alec revealed he didn’t even know Hilaria was taking a pregnancy test and only realised when he heard her screaming in the bathroom.
“There’s a scream I heard, which is a scream normally reserved [for] if there’s a spider in the house,” he said. “It really is the most amazing thing. I’m lucky.”
Hilaria said she had trouble believing she was pregnant at first, but her growing baby bump had forced her to start seriously planning for the new arrival.
“It’s getting to be much more, like OMG this is actually going to happen, now we can start the nursery, the everything, the dreaming,” she said.
Alec is already a father to 17-year-old Ireland, with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, but has always wanted to have more children. However, Fatherhood hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Alec.
In 2007 Alec left an angry and abusive voicemail on his daughter’s phone after she did not answer at their scheduled call time.
The voicemail recorded Alec telling the then 11-year-old Ireland: “You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being.”
He later blamed his outburst on stress from the custody battle with Kim.
His decision to expand his family at 54 is bound to raise a few eyebrows, something Alec is aware of.
“You must always remember that you make sure (the children) attend a college where the commencement ceremonies are held in a facility with a wheelchair accessible ramp,” he has previously joked with CNN’s Piers Morgan.
The baby is due in July, meaning Alec and Hilaria will be welcoming their new arrival around the same time as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Kim Kardashian and Kayne West. Maybe there was something in the water?
