They say a new year means new beginnings, and the Today Show is case in point.
On Monday, the brand new team kicked off the year with a bang, with host Georgie starting with the niceties:
“I’m thrilled to say good morning and welcome to my on-screen partner Deb Knight,” she told the audience.
Knight then made her debut with the line: “Partner-in-crime Georgie Gardner, it is fantastic to be here”.
The brand new team sat side by side as the show kicked off, with Gardner and Knight joined by news presenter Tom Steinfort, sports reporter Tony Jones and entertainment reporter Brooke Boney.
The team, who are reporting live from the Australian Open in Melbourne looked at ease as they shared some light banter.
“Thankfully, I’m not the only one on the desk who feels a little bit like it’s the first day of school,” Deb joked.
Making appearances on the milestone show were Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt and Jim Courier as well as Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
And while the brand new team were all smiles, not everyone in Australia could say the same for themselves.
Viewers swamped Twitter to voice their opinions on the new lineup, with one person writing: “Changed channels. New line up of hosts is dull and boring.”
Meanwhile, another wrote: “Too many people on the desk; looks crowded; get a couch & no need to have everyone with their head on at all times. Think I’ll turn over to ABC for a bit & try 9 again tomorrow.”
But while many weren’t overjoyed by the new lineup, there were some who were satisfied with the new direction of the show.
“For the first time in a looooong time I’m watching,” one Twitter user wrote.
Reactions aside, it seems Georgie and Deb couldn’t be more thrilled to be hosting the show together.
Taking to Instagram, Knight shared a sweet pic of herself and her new co-host at the Australian Open together over the weekend, writing: Gearing up for the @thetodayshow at the #ausopen. How good is #melbourne!!!
The pair aren’t strangers, having worked together in the past – and there’s no sense of rivalry either.
“There’s no risk involved because we’re both professional, we’re both journalists we’ve both worked together,” Deb told Nine Honey.
Deborah has already made a positive mark during her previous hosting stints, particularly on Weekend Today when she announced she was pregnant with her third child live on air.
