Cannes is widely considered to be the biggest fashion event of the season.
A far departure from the usual slinky gowns, and subtle jewels, Cannes is all about glamour, glamour, glamour – and nothing less.
From big gowns, to even bigger diamonds, the actresses, models and musicians that parade down the red carpet aren’t there to see movies, or support actors; they’re there to be seen and to look good doing it.
And seen they were, in fluorescent yellow or electric blue, the stars of the red carpet definitely stood out.
Take a look at Cannes’ best – and biggest.
Not afraid to put her best foot forward – or her entire leg – model Natasha Poly certainly stood out in her Atelier Versace … “gown”?
Can’t decide between leather pants and a dress? Take your cue from Sophie Marceau.
Looking like an ethereal holographic bubble, Cate Blanchett’s statuesque frame carried this Giles ballgown perfectly.
She’s 77? Jane Fonda wowed the crowds in a Atelier Versace electric blue gown with cut outs… seriously, 77?!
Whilst the fairy tale Princess look might have been a good idea, Fan Bingbing slightly misses the mark here. Her dress overwhelms her frame – plus the headband is overkill.
Despite the bad reviews, Naomi Watts looked elegant in her Armani tiered dress. And no, there weren’t any pictures of her not being flanked by her handsome co-stars… well, who could blame her.
Going for a ‘circus’ theme, Sienna Miller wore this Valentino Couture dress with kite appliqués.
Diane Kruger shimmered in this pale blue Prada gown.
In her second red carpet appearance, Natasha Poly didn’t appear to be slowing down. Her gold Michael Kors gown, with snake necklace screamed ‘old school glamour’.
Fahriye Evcen embraced the cut out trend, with her billow-y sleeves.
Li Bingbing’s glittery gown certainly caught out attention.
Hofit Golan chose this black velvet/tulle/netting confection.
Sonam Kapoor’s hourglass gown with exaggerated hips was dramatic, to say the least.
In yet another embellished gown, Li Bingbing went for a dress reminiscent of a bridal gown.
Going for her favourite silhouette, the mermaid, Eva Longoria slightly missed it here. The dress is too big, and swamps her tiny frame.
Red dress, red shoes, red carpet, Erin O’Connor was a bit of an eyesore in her Ralph & Russo gown.
Looking every inch the movie star she is, Charlize Theron glowed in her bright yellow Christian Dior.
