The day has finally arrived, Aussie champion, Steve Irwin, received his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It was a very emotional moment for his family, widow Terri and children Bindi and Bob Irwin. All three struggled to hold back tears during the ceremony. Also present was 19-year-old Bindi’s boyfriend of two years, Chandler Powell and in true Steve fashion, a giant python which could be seen slithering over the Hollywood Star.
Bindi’s speech was the real tear-jerker of the day, as she reflected that her father would have loved the ceremony.
“I’ll remember today forever. Such an emotional moment and beautiful chapter in our lives,” Bindi later captioned an Instagram photo.
Her speech on the day was a lot tougher to get out.
“We want to make sure everything he lived and died for continues on into the future,” the 19-year-old started.
Bindi’s composure shook and as she apologised for getting emotional, before lunging to hug her mother who was stood by her side.
“Really, [this is] a culmination of a lot of work from a lot of people who believe that Steve should totally get this recognition,” Terri told 7 News.
So how did Steve become the 2635th person to receive his well-deserved star on the walk of fame?
Terri revealed that all round top bloke Russell Crowe penned a Gladiator worthy letter to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce – the institution who bestow the stars.
Bindi shared a throwback snap with Aussie star thanking him for his ongoing support.
“As we get ready to unveil Dad’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sending hugs and tremendous gratitude to @russellcrowe. Your letter of support helped make this all possible. You’ve been there since the beginning and will always feel like family,” she said.
Terri, with her kids by her side, she has made Steve’s legacy soar.
Every year his work and the continued efforts are celebrated at the Steve Irwin Gala Dinner, in Beverly Hills.
This year, when the gala takes place on May 5th, wildlife warriors will be able to raise their glass to their newest immortalised star.
