Many people turning 40 consider it a milestone to be celebrated. But not Love Island Australia host Sophie Monk.
The reality star and singer, who will mark her 40th birthday later this year, insists the last thing she wants to do is throw a big party.
“I’m not really excited,” she tells TV WEEK. “My whole life is a big event and everything is hair and make-up. I don’t think it’s a big deal – I feel like I’ve been 40 for about 10 years!”
Although a celebration may not be in the works, Sophie is feeling reflective now that she’s approaching the big day.
“I thought I’d have four children and be married,” she says. “I thought I’d be in this industry for a little bit and then get out and having a normal life, where I’d pick up the kids from school.
“But I’ve realised that’s not going to happen.”
Sophie – who joins Andy Lee on Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation this week as part of team Gen Y – says 32 was her favourite age because everything just “fitted into place”.
“You get scared of hitting 30, but once you do, you love it,” she says. “I was scared of getting old and I got engaged around then. My life just flipped upside down. I remember thinking, ‘What am I doing with my life?’ But once I got into my 30s, I realised I was fine.”
While Sophie has come to realise you can’t plan your future, there is one thing she’s still hoping for – and that’s a TV WEEK Logie.
“I’ve never won anything in my life,” she says. “So to be nominated would be cool.”
Takin’ Bout Your Generation airs Wednesday, 7:30pm, on Nine Network.
