A tale as old as time: Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Boy changes TV networks… Boy and girl date.
And then it kinda just ends.
Twice.
Yes folks, apparently breakfast TV’s hottest romance is over.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential column, Sunrise host Samantha Armytage and Seven newsreader Michael Usher have called it quits “after a second attempt [on their] short-lived romance fizzled out.”
The pair kicked off their flirt fest one year ago, and if you believe reports, it took veteran reporter Michael more than two months to ask out the breakfast queen on a date.
The paper revealed, “Network sources claimed the pair had been flirting for months.”
They even spent time together at Sam’s $2.2 million Southern Highlands retreat to avoid being seen in public.
Things intensified when the former Nine journo jumped ship to the Seven network.
At the time, close pals told Woman’s Day: “He’s told mates he’s ready to take it to the next level.”
“Having settled into his role, the newsreader is reportedly ready to date again, and Sam is top of his list.”
While Sam is notoriously quiet about her love life, she did tell the Telegraph about her co-host Natalie Barr’s attempt to set her up on a date with Michael.
“We had organised to catch-up for dinner at a restaurant but I thought if we went out and were photographed, people might think we were dating!” Samantha explained, adding she decided to bring along Sunrise executive producer Michael Pell and his boyfriend Sam Rogers.
Adding, “Michael Usher and I are mates.”
Sam, 40, recently opened up on her single status.
“I meet lots of interesting men. In the past I haven’t been the greatest judge of character,” she confessed.
“But I think I’ve done a lot of growing up in the last couple of years and I’m more definite about what I won’t put up with.”
While a friend of the 46-year-old news reporter believes Michael, who has three kids from his first marriage, is focused on work for the time being.
“Usher certainly won’t be wanting for a date or the attention of women if he rises to be presenter of one of Sydney’s top news bulletins,” the pal revealed.
“And he happens to be a really nice guy.”
Maybe Michael and Sam’s third attempt will be more successful.
