Ricky Martin has opened up about one of the most “blissful” moments in his life, they day he decided to come out.
Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O, the super star singer says he has no regrets about his decision.
“It felt amazing. I wish I could come out again! That moment felt very blissful, you know?” he said.
Despite having reservations beforehand about revealing his sexuality, The Voice coach says he was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
“When it happens, you realise all your fears are in your head. The support I received from the media, my fans, my family, was amazing,” he said.
“Unfortunately society pushes us to believe that our feelings are evil.”
When asked why he decided to come out, Ricky had no hesitation in crediting the birth of his sons for his decision. His twin boys, now five, Matteo and Valentino, were born via surrogate in 2008.
“Oh, my kids! When I held them in my arms for the first time, I thought, it’s about honesty, it’s about transparency, and I don’t want my kids to grow up in a household where they have to lie about their daddy, you know?” he said.
“Eventually they’re gonna go to school and they’re gonna be asked. I wanted them to see it as, ‘My dad is the coolest man on the face of the earth, he loves me and I love my dad, doesn’t matter who he is’.”
Ricky ended his relationship with economist Carlos González Abella in January this year.
