Itโ€™s been over a month since Lisa Wilkinsonโ€™s shocking departure from the Today show and still, Nine has not confirmed a replacement.

Georgie Gardner, 46, is currently the front-runner to fill the coveted hosting position, despite turning down the role initially. Reports allege attempts are being made to persuade Georgie this is a good move for her, after initial hesitation over returning to breakfast television.

On top of that, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that she and Karl Stefanovic donโ€™t exactly get along and are being forced to โ€œclear the airโ€ during a recent boardroom lunch.

Sources from Nine also told SMH that Georgie was โ€œreally the best person for the role.โ€

Georgie left the Today show in 2014 to spend more time with her family.

While Georgie may be reluctant to take on the role, Nine has offered her the option of working just four weekdays, sharing the role fellow Nine reporting veteran, Deb Knight.

Georgie, pictured with her kids Bronte and Angus on her last Today show, left the breakfast show in 2014 to spend more time with her family.

When she left in 2014, Georgie shared this quip with her fans: โ€œThe early hours are punishing and after seven years itโ€™s time for me to catch up on some sleep.โ€

Could sharing the role be enough to bring her back?

A Nine staffer shared a little more on why so much effort was being put into trying to bring the 46-year-old back.

โ€œSheโ€™s fโ€”ing tough, let me tell you; she doesnโ€™t take shit from anyone. More importantly, sheโ€™s been a journo for years. She has a strong news background and sheโ€™s more than capable of doing political interviews as well as the banter.โ€

With competition between Today and rivals, Sunrise heating up โ€“ an announcement is expected to be made any day now.
