Nicole Kidman has received an impressive five Oscars Nominations with four being for ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’.
Most notably she won her first Oscar in 2003 for her outstanding performance as Virginia Woolf in The Hours starring alongside Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore.
Although despite her win, she revealed how she truly felt that night 11 years later.
The reality was she was hiding her tears and dreading the after-party that she was forced to attend after her win.
She ended up in her hotel room, surrounded by family, eating takeout.
The reason? The actress had just finalised her divorce from Tom Cruise after 11 years of marriage.
She broke into tears during her acceptance speech as this was only the second time she’d been nominated for an Academy Award.
“Russell Crowe said don’t cry when you get up there, and now I’m crying.”
In Dave Karger’s new book, 50 Oscar Nights, she revealed that her personal life was falling apart despite her career taking off.
“I literally walked in, carried it around, was completely overwhelmed, emotional, shaking, and I didn’t enjoy it.” She explained she’s not much of a party girl and being told she had to walk around with her award felt like gloating.
“I was almost apologetic, which is so stupid.”
“I wish I could have enjoyed it more.”
Two years on from that night she found the true love of her life – country-rock legend, Keith Urban and now they’ve been married for 17 years.
They’ve since had two kids together, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. She also adopted two children while she was married to Tom named Isabella and Connor.
She hasn’t won an Oscar since 2003 but she promises next time she does she’ll ‘be out for 24 hours’ celebrating.
