Nicole Kidman has landed in Sydney, fresh from the Cannes 2017 red carpet, for just two days to spend some time with her mum Janelle.
Nicole will celebrate her 50th birthday on June 20 but the celebrations are going to start little early.
According to Sydney Confidential, Nicole will be hosting an intimate cocktail party for a group of close friends and family, including mum Janelle, on the iconic Sydney harbour.
“It’s just a small gathering so Nic can see her mum for her birthday,” a friend told the publication.
However, while speaking to Graham Norton on his show husband Keith Urban confirmed he’s also planning a party for Nicole. While the details are a surprise, the party itself most certainly won’t be.
Keith and Nicole (who appeared on the show together) shared a laugh about Nicole’s previous ill-fated surprise parties, and her unusual reaction to the shock.
“I’m going to be 50 and I’m so excited”, Nicole said about her upcoming birthday. But when asked by Graham about the finer details of the party, Keith kept his cards close to his chest.
“I’ve got a lot of good stuff planned, but I can’t mention it,” Keith said cheekily. “She’s not good with surprises, at all.”
“I actually break out in a cold sore if I have a surprise,” Nicole continued. “I did have a surprise party once when I was 30, and it was so shocking to me because people had come from overseas and they had set it all up, and I walked in and I broke out in a cold sore!”
Nicole elaborated on why she isn’t a fan of surprise parties, so let’s hope Keith was taking notes.
“The other thing with a surprise party is, as a girl you kind of want to be dressed and ready for it. You don’t want to be in your sweat pants and a t-shirt and everyone else is all dressed up.”
Nicole is certainly no stranger to dressing up. Her stunning looks were repeatedly hailed as some of the best dressed at the recent Cannes film festival.
Nicole, who starred in three premiere films and one TV series at this year’s event, was even honoured with a special award created especially for the actress for her service to the film industry.
The 70th Anniversary Jury Prize awarded to Nicole was presented by fellow actor Will Smith, who also accepted the award on her behalf as Nicole had already gone home to Nashville.
She sent a video thank you in her place, in which she said: “I’m just absolutely devastated not to be with you tonight, but I’m thrilled to be receiving this award.”
